How We Met & Proposal
We met a little over 9 years ago at a Science Fair in college. Had you told us we would be married now, we would have laughed! Back then, we were best friends (we still are.), and we were intent on keeping it that way. Time passed, and we couldn’t ignore the fact that it was more than just friendship. We were drawn towards each other all the time. Eventually, we decided to give dating a chance and so we started going for long and romantic drives on my motorcycle, movies, shopping, etc. We knew there was something more, simply due to the fact that every time we met, it became harder to leave. A few years later, we came to the USA for higher education and got engaged a year later. After graduating, we decided to do a civil ceremony in New York and started planning our Indian wedding. Raul had promised me that he would propose to her and so he took me to South Beach in Miami, just before we left for India. He got down on one knee and proposed where the ocean meets the sand!
I always dreamed of having a royal wedding, and my parents made my dream come true. The wedding venue was LVP banquets and conventions, which is on the grounds of the magnanimous Lakshmi Vilas Palace in Vadodara. It is the most beautiful place to get married in the city, as it has an old world charm along with just the right amount of contemporary. It was beyond all our expectations! The hospitality, the decor, THE FOOD! Everything was truly brilliant!
Wedding Planning & Functions
We both wanted the wedding to be an intimate affair and so we tried to keep the guest list in check. The Mehendi & Haldi functions were held at my place. The wedding muhurat was of 11 am and Rahul & my father ensured everyone reaches the venue in time for the ceremony. They had decided to signal each other with a thumbs-up to start the music (band) and the dancing of the baraat and reach the entrance. Because of this discrete gesturing, the wedding ceremony began at the perfect time! ;) The whole ceremony went smoothly and we still receive rave reviews about it. After the wedding, we had a small reception and cake cutting. I jokingly carried Rahul's sword and wore his turban which made for a joyous and fun moment! Usually, the bride's send-off to her new home is teary, but mine was full of laughter and exuberance.
Advice For Couples
Creating a list of things you want in your wedding is the first thing you can do to get started (venue, photographer, wardrobe, etc.). Designate friends and family to various tasks and keep track of progress. Relax and cherish these special moments. You are getting married, and this decision will stay with you forever; so make it memorable.
